Softcover — for everyday

Softcover, paperback or softback refers to a book, which cover is made of paper or cardboard. The most common form of binding for soft covers is perfect binding also referred as adhesive binding. Important advantage of this binding is that single sheets can be added to a publication and they do not need to be center folded like in sewing and stitching methods. Thread sewing is another binding option for softcovers.

Softcover is the least expensive form of the book, but it also does not have that solid look of the hardcover. Softcovers normally do not have dust jacket, but they may have flaps in both or in one side instead.

Softcover books are usually first editions of novels, for paperbacks and various advertising print material used for trade shows, fairs, seminars and other. Companies often print handbooks, financial and other yearly reports which also as a rule are made in softcover form.
